Antibiotic resistance profiling studies are used to predict the types of resistant strains that might develop or emerge in the clinic and as a tool for studying mechanism of action of new antimicrobial compounds. Methods used to determine the frequency of spontaneous antibiotic resistance profiling include serial passage techniques with step-wise increase in antibiotic concentration on solid or liquid media.
