We provide LC-MS as part of our R&D services. LC-MS couples the power of high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) with a mass spectrometer (MS). Our LC-MS services are designed for scientists who are looking for both standard and custom methods of characterizing their molecules, formulations, or solutions.
The primary advantage of our LC-MS system is that we use three orthogonal detection methods. This allows us to detect a much wider breadth of molecules than most LC-MS systems.

Photodiode array (PDA): We can detect of UV/vis signals from 200-800 nm. Because all of the wavelengths are captured and stored, we can go back and extract any wavelength, or even present a UV spectrum of a given peak.
Evaporative Light Scattering detector (ELSD): This detector nebulizes the incoming flow, then evaporates the solvent. Any non-volatile molecules scatter a light beam, and are detected, regardless of whether they have a UV/vis absorbance.
Mass spectrometer (MS): This detector nebulizes the flow and ionizes the molecules, typically by protonation (positive mode) or deprotonation (negative mode). Our ESI/APCI dual ionization is designed to ionize both hydrophilic (ESI) and small, hydrophobic (APCI) molecules.
Taken together, these three detectors are able to detect – and quantify – any organic small molecule. From biofuel analysis (which often involves non-UV-active, unionizable molecules) to serum-bound organic molecules (which are present in very low concentrations), we’re able to apply LC-MS in many different ways to suit your needs.
